1968 St. Agnes Girls Provincial Champs

St. Agnes High of New Waterford won the Nova Scotia Headmasters Association "B" Girls Basketball Championship with a 2-1 record, al- though they ended the four team round robin series in a three way tie with New Ross and Musquodoboit. St. Agnes won the tournament on the basis of highest point spread. St. Agnes had last won the title in 1965.

The Jim Chiasson-coached St. Agnes team scored 96 points and allowed 75 against them for a point spread of 21 while New Ross had 79-61 for an 18 point spread and Musquodoboit was 77- 61 for a 16 point difference.

St. Agnes' Mary Moseychuck won two awards, most valuable player for the tourna- ment, along with the sportsmanship award and was also named to the All Star Team along with teammate Heather MacDonald. Heather also had the highest point score of one game with 19 against.

St. Agnes dropped their opening game to Musquodoboit by a 26-20 score, with the Saints losing two of their top players on fouls in this game, Joanne Connors and Patsy Timmons. St. Agnes came back the next day to upset the favored New Ross entry 27-25 and walloped Dartmouth St. Peter's 49-24.

On their return to New Waterford, the team was met at the town boundary by the large engine of the Fire Department and a cavalcade of cars which accompanied them on a victory parade through the town streets.
