Calgary, ABWalter was born in Glace Bay and received both his elementary and high school education in New Waterford. Walter attended St. Agnes High School where he par- ticipated in all school sports including: rugby, basketball and baseball. He was also known as an avid swimmer and skater.
Walter excelled in all sports but had a natural talent for basketball. For it was here that Walter would make a name for himself.
In 1932, Walter was the Captain of the St. Agnes High School Basketball Champions. This team was better known as the Young Mens Christian Institute. The Y.M.C.I. at this time had chapters all across Canada.
Representing New Waterford and Nova Scotia, the St. Agnes team had won the Canadian Championship by defeating Woodstock, New Brunswick at home in New Brunswick.
Walter continued his education at St. Francis Xavier University for 2 years, after which he returned to New Waterford. Walter then worked at both No.'s 12 and 16 Collieries. He married Anna MacKinnon and raised a fami- ly of five children.
Walter MacNeil was an outstanding athlete and person. It is with great pleasure that the Coal Bowl Directors recognize Walter's tremendous talents.

Halifax, NSBob, better known as "Red Bob", was born and educated in Sydney, N.S. Bob played High School Basketball for Sydney Academy. During this time, he also participated in the High School Intramural Sports Program.
Upon graduation from Sydney Academy, Bob enrolled in the Faculty of Science at Dalhousie University. He con- tinued on to receive his Masters Degree in Science, also from Dalhousie University.
Bob then returned to New Waterford, where he taught science at Central High School for 13 years. Bob, also coached high school basketball for 13 years, where he won seven Nova Scotia High School Basketball Champion- ships. In 1961, his team went on to win the Canadian Juvenile Basketball Championship.
Bob MacDonald was both a great educator and motivator of students; whether it was in the classroom or on the play- ing court. It is with great pleasure that the Coal Bowl Direc- tors recognize "Red Bob" MacDonald's outstanding record. He is truly one of the most outstanding teachers and coaches in the history of the town of New Waterford.
